The Lexington County Inmate Inquiry Portal
The county's public inmate tool is the Sheriff's P2C Inmate Inquiry, powered by the Superion P2C system. It lists people currently in the detention center. The roster is free and open to the public. Each row shows a name, the primary charge, the arrest date, and the booking agency.
The portal is the entry point for the jail roster.
Direct or scripted access to the roster may trigger a bot check, so use a normal browser to review a live record.
How to Use the Lexington County Jail Roster
Using the roster takes a few steps. Start with a last name, then narrow with the filter tool if the list is long. The grid lets you set how many rows show at once, from 5 up to all.
- Open the Lexington County Inmate Inquiry.
- Type the last name, and the first name if you know it.
- Click Search to run the name lookup.
- Use the Filter Inmate List tool to sort by booking agency or other fields.
- Select a row to open the booking detail.
- To confirm custody by phone, call the Inmate Information Center at (803) 785-8230, option 2.
If a name does not appear, the person may have been released, transferred, or never booked here. The roster shows current county custody only.

What Lexington County Inmate Results Show
An inmate listing is short but tells you the key facts. The fields below appear on a typical result. A mugshot may show in the detail view rather than the list.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Last, first, and middle, with race, sex, and age |
| Primary Charge | The main charge at booking |
| Arrest Date | The date of the arrest, MM/DD/YYYY |
| Booking Agency | The agency that made the arrest |
| Detail Record | Opens when a row is selected for more booking info |
The roster does not show the plea, sentence, or release date. Those come from the court file or, after release, from a phone confirmation.

Mail, Money, and Phone Calls
Mail goes to two different addresses depending on type. Regular inmate mail and photos go to the Smart Communications address in Florida, where they are processed electronically. Money orders, legal mail, court documents, and approved publications go to the detention center in Lexington.
- Regular mail/photos: Smart Communications / Lexington County Detention Center, INMATE NAME - ID, PO Box 9108, Seminole, FL 33775-9108.
- Legal mail and money orders: Inmate Name and ID, Lexington County Detention Center, P.O. Box 2019, Lexington, SC 29071.
Inmates cannot hold cash. Money goes into an account for canteen items, by mail money order or online, with a limit of $140 per day. Inmates cannot receive phone calls; to fund calls, press option 6 when calling jail information. For a death or medical emergency of an immediate family member, contact the shift supervisor at (803) 785-2743.
Jail Capacity and Housing Structures
The detention center grew over three building phases, and the structures still shape how the jail houses people today. The Housing Unit runs 14 units and separates inmates by sex, classification level, and supervision needs. The table below shows the rated capacity of each structure.
| Structure | Opened | Capacity |
|---|---|---|
| Old jail | 1975 | 102 |
| Annex complex | 1991 | 176 |
| Housing pod structure | 1998 | 321 |
| Total SCDC rated capacity | n/a | 599 |
The 2024 average daily population of 641 ran above the official rated capacity of 599. The Sheriff's about page describes the center as 720-bed, but the annual report uses the SCDC-rated 599 for capacity. For the full population breakdown, see the jail population page.
Visitor Rules and Reasons for Denial
The detention center sets firm rules for visits, and breaking them can end a visit before it starts. A dress code bars short shorts, short skirts, tank tops, and tight or revealing clothing; shoes and shirts are required. Food, drinks, purses, cell phones, and recording devices are not allowed in the visitation area. All visitors and property may be searched.
A visit can be denied for several reasons.
- The visitor is not on the inmate's approved list.
- The visitor breaks a rule or acts in a disruptive way.
- The visitor seems to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- There is not enough visitation space.
- The visit would threaten safety or security.
Former inmates must wait six months after release before they can visit a current inmate. The detention center will not hold a visitor's property or accept clothing for an inmate.
Medical Care and Jail Programs
Medical care runs 24 hours a day through contracted staff, with a physician who regularly sees inmates and limited dental service. A mental health caseworker is available seven days a week and on call after hours. The detention center has held National Commission on Correctional Health Care accreditation since 2008.
Programs include VA Outreach, LRADAC, the Courage Center, a Buprenorphine Taper Program, Books on Wheels, a Pre-Release and Reentry Program, and religious services. For release-related resources, see the released inmates page.
The Detention Chaplain Corps visits inmates of Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Unitarian, and other faiths. Urgent medical or mental health concerns about an inmate should go to the detention shift supervisor at (803) 785-2743, and emergency transports to a hospital are arranged when a case calls for it.
Visit and Contact Volume
The detention center handles a heavy flow of contact each year. In 2024 it logged 14,272 visits, split into 2,439 on-site visits and 11,833 remote video visits. The shift toward video has grown since 2014 and eased staffing demands, though some professional and attorney visits stay in person.
Phone contact is one-way for inmates, who cannot receive calls. To fund an inmate's outbound calls, press option 6 when calling jail information. Messages are not passed to inmates except for a verified emergency. For a death or medical emergency involving an immediate family member, contact the detention shift supervisor at (803) 785-2743.
State and Federal Inmate Searches
The county roster only covers the local jail. For someone in state prison, use the South Carolina Department of Corrections search. For a federal inmate, use the Bureau of Prisons locator. Victims and the public can also set up custody alerts through VINELink.
The South Carolina Department of Corrections runs the state prison inmate search.
The Bureau of Prisons locator covers federal inmates held from 1982 to the present.
VINELink sends custody-status alerts so you do not have to keep checking by hand.
What Is Not Public
The roster leaves some things out. Medical and mental health information is not part of the public record. Juvenile custody is restricted. The roster also will not tell you a release date or a court outcome.
Note: Jail custody records are open under state law for the prior three months, but medical, juvenile, and victim details can be withheld or redacted.
For population and capacity data rather than a single inmate, see the Lexington County jail population page.
What if the inmate I am looking for is not on the roster?
A missing name usually means one of three things. The person may have been released, since the roster shows current custody only. They may have been moved to state prison or federal custody, which use separate searches. Or the arrest may have been logged by another agency. Call the Inmate Information Center at (803) 785-8230, option 2, to confirm.
